The Canadian vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Lenka Lichtenberg is best described as “…a force of nature within Canada’s world music scene” (Penguin Eggs), shining as one of the most ambitious and visionary artistic builders in a nation that proudly defines its human identity as a multicultural mosaic.
Once a child star in her native Prague, Czech Republic, and now the winner of multiple awards, she sings in no less than six languages. Her eight albums to date range from her inspirational roots in Czech folk and Yiddish poetry to ethno/pop/jazz fusion with her ensemble Fray, channeling the rich Toronto soundscapes of Middle East, India and Brazil, and her own East European heritage.
Her collaborations with leading world-roots musicians from the global diaspora include Yair Dalal on her 2014 album Lullabies from Exile. “Open My Eyes (Eccodek Remix)” is the result of her dynamic work with Andrew McPherson/Eccodek, one of Canada’s top globetronic producers, who has remixed the likes of Vieux Farka Toure and Transglobal Underground. The remix evolved from Lenka Lichtenberg & Fray’s stunning second full-length album, Embrace (2013). The album has since received airplay and acclaim all over the world.
